Geneseo Late Knight
What we have been doing….

Welcome everyone!

GLK has been up to a lot since our last post. We kicked off the school year with an awesome carnival and Foam party…. and then fun just kept going from there. We have had clearly you crystals, mechanical bulls, dance parties, Singers, game shows, live adventure animals and so much more on campus.

Although the rest of you were enjoying summer, GLK was busy putting things into place for this semester. In case you have not heard, we have a new grant system offering programming money of either $300 per month or $1200 per semester. Check out glk.geneseo.edu for more information on the grant system and how it works.

While you are checking out the grant system, make sure to notice that we have a new website, which is really great and totally worth checking out! There are great pictures of some of our events already too.

On the site, if you look under contact us, you will see that we have a NEW GLK Coordinator, Alex Snow. Alex, Lauren (Supervisor), and the GLK team of interns & event staff have been busy planning some awesome events. Look to see what some of our future events are on the website (glk.geneseo.edu) and keep and eye out for:

IGC POOL Party w/ GLK: November 19th

Amnesty International Benefit Concert w/ GLK: November 20th

We also will be having a ZUMBA BASH PARTY very soon!

Can’t wait to have you join us for all our awesome events.

Hello Summer!

Hey Everyone,

Here is a brief recap of the weekend! GLK finished off the semester with Springfest.  Friday night featured Comedian Matt Bergman as he tore up the Knight Spot with his humor and wit.  Students Engaged for Eyesight also hosted an Eye Accessories craft night.  On Saturday night GLK hosted a Video Dance Party where students danced the night away to the glow of a giant screen.  Students also crowded the Union to participate in a Magic Tournament and get free cards.

Check out these photos:

The semester is coming to an end and so is my internship with GLK.  I want to thank you all for reading my blog.  Don’t forget to check out GLK website, glk.geneseo.edu, and out new blog at geneseolateknight.wordpress.com.

The Weekend Review: 4/22 - 4/24

This past weekend was a blast with GLK!  Geneseo Late Knight in conjunction with many different student organizations put on three nights of fun!  Check out what happened this past weekend!

Thursday Night:

GLK and Pride kicked off the weekend right with Gay? Fine by Me!  Pride Alliance hosted their annual panel discussion and t-shirt distribution as part of their ongoing effort for equal rights in the queer community.  Panelists included student, professors, and community members who shared coming of age stories and life experiences.  This event was made possible by the combined efforts of Pride, GLK, Residence Life, Department of Sociology, Department of English, Department of Women’s Studies, Department of Anthropology, Student Association, Inter-Residence Council, Multicultural Programs and Services, and the Xerox Center.

Friday Night:

GLK continued the fun on Friday night with five different events.  GLK hosted Let’s Make it Tonight: Frisbee Decorating.  Students loved the opportunity to get their hands on their very own disc and doodle away with sharpies and puff paint.  The event was a huge success with all the frisbees flying off the table in a half hour.  Afterwards students played pickup games on the Plaza.  Stitches hosted a Knit-a-thin on Friday.  The members taught newcomers the basics of knitting.  Members and students alike enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere of the East Side Lounge as they knitted 8” squared for charity.  Stitches also had a variety of knitting and candy give-aways.  The Knight Spot was hopping with friends and members of GSTV, WGSU, and The Lamron because of Media Prom.  Great atmosphere, fancy decorations, and hoppin’ music made for a memorable night.  The CU Patio was also alive with student activity.  Habitat for Humanity hosted Raising the Roof: Patio Jam to raise money and enjoy an evening listening to tunes outdoors.  Student bands, acapella groups, and There I Say is Lighting performed for students in the cool night air.  The Student Art Association wrapped up the night with ART CHAOS!  Despite small attendance student enjoyed making paper-mace  bowls with tissue paper and glue.

Saturday Night:

Active Minds kicked off Saturday Night with Health and Humor, an improv comedy show.  Students crowded the Grind to watch their friends and have some laughs.  The event went really well and GLK can’t wait to work with them again next year.  The Latino Student Association hosted their first GLK event of the year to celebrate the Brazilian tradition of Carnaval!  Memebers and students enjoyed learning about Caranaval and making fun feathery masks.  The CU Lobby was taken over by Kindergarten Knight!  CU&A Programming Intern Kara Johnson hosted this retro night! Students loves being able to travel back to their younger years with activities like Bingo, Plaster of Paris hand imprints, finger painting, Legos, and slime making.  GLK helped celebrate Earth Week by hosting Eco-Friendly Planting.  GLK provided biodegradable planters, chemical and fertilizer-free soil, seeds, and milk-protein based paints.  Students loved being able to take home their own little herb garden with their choice of parsley, basil, mint, and cilantro.

Check out the photos from this past weekend:

Weekend in Review: 4/16, 4/17

Hey all! This entry’s got a guest blogger, and it’s Vanessa the GLK Coordinator! Sorry for the late update, but I hoarded the GLK camera over the weekend. What can I say? I just love reliving the excitement of Late Knight!

Friday night was pretty exciting with Medieval Club and GAGG’s Nerf Axe and Knife Toss. It took over the CU Lobby, and with the flags and knights all over the College Union, we definitely had the right atmosphere for a grand ol’ medieval time! Right upstairs in the Eastside Lounge, CU&A intern Kara Johnston had people decorating brand-spanking new flip flops in all sorts of colors and sizes. The Knightspot was the place to be for bingo with FACE AIDS and sweet prizes like Xbox Live cards, iTunes gift certificates, and more. And Sturges Auditorium was creepy enough as it is to begin with. But it got even freakier with the Northern Paranormal Society’s findings of Monroe Hall! According to NPS, the whole story about “Eric” haunting Monroe is a tall tale, but there’s definitely some weird stuff going on there. Maybe it has something to do with the Native American burial grounds not too far away from campus…

Saturday night was Relay for Life and GLK represented! Our fleece pillows and Circle K and CAC’s Japanese paper lanterns were pretty popular and flew off our tables. KASA and ThiNK hosted a Poker Tournament in the Ballroom that got really intense, and with good reason; the grand prize was a Playstation 3!  MacU Theatre showed “300” and was a place for people to relax admist the excitement of Relay for Life.

If you missed out, we’ve got some pics to share below. There are only 2 more weekends of GLK fun, so be sure to come out and celebrate the weekend!

Ye Olde (Nerf) Axe Toss

Some pretty flippy floppys.

Fun in the Sun!

Loren and I had a blast at Lobby Tabling.  Traffic in the CU has been down the past couple of weeks due to the beautiful weather so Loren and I took out Lobby Tabling outside to the CU Patio!  The warm weather and sunshine attracted lots of students!  They were also really excited about all the cool prizes and refreshing drinks GLK was handing out.  Loren and I loved the opportunity to catch some sun and promote our upcoming events and openings on the GLK staff.

Check out what happened on the CU Patio:

Enjoy the weather!

All the best,

Tara
